During an Aliso Viejo Fat Grafting, our surgeon, Dr. Tavoussi, will use either a large or small-bore needle or liposuction techniques to remove the fat. Then, the fat cells will be placed in a medical centrifuge where they will have any drugs, blood or other potentially harmful cells removed. Finally, Dr. Tavoussi will place the fat cells into the new part of the body. Occasionally, the fat may be cut out in strips and placed into the body, depending on the patient and the unique procedure.
Most Aliso Viejo Fat Grafting is done under local anesthesia at the Pacifica Outpatient Surgery Center. However, should general anesthesia be needed, trained anesthetists are on site. Following the grafting, skilled nurses will monitor each patient carefully in a recovery room before the patient is discharged home.
Patients should plan to rest for the first day or two at home but can generally return to work within a few days to a week. Aliso Viejo patients will most likely experience swelling in the grafted area for the first two weeks and may have bruising around the sites. However, there are typically few complications with this procedure. Patients should realize that the newly grafted areas will look much different once the swelling has diminished. In addition, some patients may absorb a great deal of the fat cells that are grafted. It is estimated that between 20 to 95 percent of the fat will take. To ensure the best possible results, patients should avoid stressing the areas by rubbing them or by vigorously exercising within the first couple weeks.
