While facelifts are commonly performed cosmetic surgeries, they are still often misunderstood. In fact, many individuals have believed a variety of myths about facelifts simply because they have never spoken to a professional about them. Here, we address the top five myths that we commonly hear at our office and give you the truth about the matter.
Myth 1: Facelifts Are Only for Very Old Patients
While most of our facelift patients have reached middle age, you do not have to be a senior citizen to be a good candidate for this procedure. In fact, you should actually be young enough to still have decent tone, texture, and elasticity in your facial skin so that you will see the best results.
Myth 2: Facelifts Provide Plastic-Looking Results
When facelifts are done correctly by a well-trained professional with years of expertise, they should look completely natural. In fact, once healing is completed, the only change that you should notice is that your face appears much as it did 10 or 20 years prior.
Myth 3: Facelifts Are Only for Women
Although a majority of facelift clients are women, there is no ban on men undergoing this procedure. Many men can benefit from the lifting and wrinkle-reducing effects of a facelift. Currently, 10 percent or more of the individuals who undergo facelifts are men.
Myth 4: Facelift Scars Will Always Be Noticeable
Facelift incisions will be expertly hidden in natural facial creases around the ears as well as in the hairline. They should not be easily visible to the naked eye. In addition, we offer the mini facelift, which requires far fewer incisions than the traditional facelift does.
Myth 5: Facelifts Provide the Same Results as Botox Does
A facelift is actually used for problems that cannot be controlled with Botox. While Botox is used to treat mild expression lines that smooth away when the face is at rest, a facelift is used to treat deeply lined, wrinkled, loose or sagging skin.
