Cosmetic Surgeries for the Seasons
While Dr. Tavoussi sees patients before and after surgery at our OC Cosmetic Surgery Clinique in Newport Beach, all of our general surgery cosmetic procedures are performed at the Pacifica Outpatient Surgery Center. Some of our patients are surprised to find that Dr. Tavoussi does not perform breast lifts, facelifts and other procedures like these at a local hospital. They may even feel concerned that they will not have the medical backup that they may need should a complication arise during surgery. However, Dr. Tavoussi and many other doctors believe that there are numerous benefits to using outpatient surgery centers rather than hospitals for these elective procedures.
Advantages of Outpatient Surgery Centers
- First, patients will find that they have lower charges at outpatient surgery centers. This is because they will be discharged home that same night, removing the huge charges for overnight stays and extra medical care. They will still need to pay for the surgical suite, recovery room, surgeon and anesthesia costs as well as any lab work or medications that are ordered.
- Second, surgeries performed at outpatient surgery centers come with lower risks for infection than those found at hospitals. Of course, the less time a patient spends in any healthcare setting, the less of a chance for an infection there is. Additionally, hospitals are notorious for a variety of infections, including those that are antibiotic-resistant.
- Finally, most patients feel that they have greater emotional wellbeing following an outpatient surgical procedure than they would with an inpatient one. It is much less nerve-wracking to go into a procedure knowing that one will be back home that same night than it is knowing that there will be an overnight stay. Our patients like being able to have their family and friends help care for them following surgery. They also appreciate being able to walk around so quickly following surgery.
It should be noted that occasionally a patient does need to be transferred to a local Orange County hospital following a procedure due to complications. In these situations, the anesthesiologists we work with at Pacifica Outpatient Surgery Center do have full local hospital privileges, giving our patients continuity of care and peace of mind. However, the staff at Pacifica is fully trained and skilled, both for anesthesiology as well as for nursing. We are convinced that outpatient surgery is the way to go for cosmetic procedures.
