The Story Regarding Ariel Winter
Ariel Winter was 17 years old when she underwent the surgery to go from a 32F to a 34D. While many breast reductions are not performed at this young of an age, they may be medically advised in extreme and unique circumstances. For example, as she was on the set of Modern Family, Ariel found that she had problems with back and neck pain due to the weight from her breasts. In more extreme circumstances, very large breasts may cause problems with breathing. However, in most cases, the cosmetic surgeon prefers to wait until women are older than this to ensure that the breasts have completely developed.
Candidates For Breast Reduction Cosmetic Procedure
This brings up the question of when a breast reduction is medically necessary and will be covered by some insurance companies. When a reduction is performed for only cosmetic reasons, health insurance will not cover the cost. However, when there is documented back or neck pain, grooving in the shoulders from the weight of bra straps or another documented condition caused by very large breasts, insurance may cover the cost of the surgery. Many insurance companies require that a certain amount of tissue be removed to cover the cost and may only cover costs for people who are below a certain BMI.
Those who are good candidates for breast reductions are those who are in good health, currently have healthy breasts and have realistic expectations. In addition, candidates should usually be old enough to have completely formed breasts yet young enough to have good skin elasticity. Most people who have a breast reduction have some type of discomfort from the breasts or are quite unhappy with the look of their breasts in proportion to the rest of the body.
