The rhinoplasty is a common cosmetic procedure performed by Dr. Tavoussi of OC Cosmetic Surgery Clinique on patients located in Newport Beach, Orange County. A nose job can also be performed for medical purposes such as correcting impaired breathing that is a result of structural defects in a person’s nose.
During the Surgery
A rhinoplasty procedure may be done outside of the nose using a small incision or inside the nose. Dr. Tavoussi will begin by adjusting the cartilage and bone under the skin. For small changes to your nose, Dr. Tavoussi may be able to use cartilage that is deeper in the nose or may even harvest it from one of your ears. For larger needs, Dr. Tavoussi can use a bone fragment from any part of your body or can use implants.
After the Surgery
Depending on the complexity of the procedure and if any complications arose during or immediately following the surgery, there is a possibility of being admitted to the hospital for observation or treatment. In most cases, you will go home after having rhinoplasty surgery.
If you go home after the surgery (outpatient), you will need to rest with your head raised above your chest, similarly to a slightly reclined position. This will help decrease swelling and any bleeding. Your nose will most likely be congested because of the splints that are usually removed after seven days. You will also have a splint taped to the outside of your nose for providing stability.
You will not be able to wear eyeglasses or sunglasses on your nose for at least a month after the surgery, but there are other alternatives to keeping your eyeglasses in place. You will also experience some swelling and bruising around your eyelids; this should resolve its self within a few weeks following surgery.
