What’s Up with All the Lasers?

March 16, 2019
Dr. Tavoussi - What’s Up with All the Lasers? | Newport Beach Plastic Surgery

A quick peek at the minimally invasive treatments currently offered for the skin will show you that many of them rely on lasers to change the skin from the inside out without requiring needles or incisions. Lasers have changed the face of cosmetic treatments by offering clients more options for looking youthful without surgical procedures. However, when you start considering laser treatments, you will immediately notice how many there are to choose from today. Some of the most common names thrown around include Fraxel, Halo, Clear & Brilliant, Laser Genesis, and CO2 Lasers. Are you worried about picking the right one? Read on for some tips for finding the right treatment for you.

Talk to Your Doctor

Start with an honest conversation with your cosmetic surgeon. You should tell him your goals for your skin and what you are hoping to avoid. Each laser is designed for certain tasks. For example, some are used mainly for prevention of future issues while others tighten the skin or reduce hyperpigmentation. Some work lightly on the surface while others work deep beneath the skin.

Know What You Want Done

There are five major reasons that people most frequently seek laser treatments in a cosmetic surgery office.

  • To treat fine lines and wrinkles
  • To tighten the skin, such as in the jowls
  • To reduce hyperpigmentation, such as with freckles or age spots
  • To remove hair
  • To reduce acne or remove acne scars

Each laser works differently to produce different effects.

Understand the Side Effects

Because some lasers work farther beneath the surface of the skin than others do, side effects from each laser differ. Generally, lasers using broadband light or intense pulse light are far milder than fractional or CO2 lasers, which work deeper and may require a few weeks for complete skin healing. During recovery, you will need to stay out of the sunlight.

Laser skin resurfacing is a great way to see dramatic results on your skin without requiring any surgery. Be sure to consult with Dr. Tavoussi to discuss your goals. That way, he will be able to direct you to the right treatment for your needs. Whether you want to get rid of some freckles, tighten your facial skin or even get rid of stretch marks from your pregnancy, we can help you at the OC Cosmetic Surgery Clinique in sunny Newport Beach.
